Police Action Shooting Began With Battery Complaint

Last updated on Thursday, December 4, 2014

(WORTHINGTON) - A police action shooting at the State Road 67 Motel, south of Worthington, is still under investigation.

Last Sunday, Greene County Sheriff deputies responded to the motel after they received a call about a 49-year-old Worthington man being battered.

According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil, the investigation turned into a police action shooting after the suspect became involved in an altercation with a deputy.

At some point during the altercation, the deputy discharged his weapon injuring the suspect, Durnil says.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital where he is recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect has not been arrested, and no name has been released. No officers were injured in the incident.

ISP's Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the report will be turned over to the Greene County Prosecutor for his review.
