Pekin Man Injured After Falling From Tree Stand

Last updated on Monday, December 1, 2014

(WASHINGTON CO.) - A Pekin man was injured after he fell from his tree stand Friday morning while hunting.

56-year-old Charles Denton suffered hip and leg injuries after falling approximately 8 to the ground.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., Denton was descending his "climbing sticks," when the straps securing the mobile steps broke. Fortunately, Denton had descended halfway from the 15-20 feet stand height and only fell 8 feet, which likely lessened the severity of his injuries.

Denton was transported by ambulance to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.

Denton was wearing a safety harness, but it was not affixed to the tree. Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage hunters to routinely inspect all tree stands, straps and equipment, in addition to properly wearing a safety harness when hunting from an elevated stand.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department and Washington County EMS assisted at the scene.
