(UNDATED) - This year’s November election showed a low percentage of voter turnout.
Secretary of State Connie Lawson announced that 30 percent, or 1,388,965, of Indiana's 4.5 million registered voters cast a vote in the November 4 General Election.
Monroe County is among the worst with one of the lowest percentage of voter turnout in the county in a decade for a general election at 26 percent.
Lawrence County has 32,004 registered voters and only 9,949 turned out to vote - at 31 percent. Of those numbers 7,679 went to the polls and 2,270 voted absentee. Orange County was at 35 percent, with Jackson County at 36 percent.
Several Indiana counties saw voter turnout higher than 40 percent. Martin, Ohio, Perry, Pike and Spencer all had at least a 48 percent turnout rate. Greene County was at 46 percent. Jay County had the highest turnout rate in the state at 52 percent.
Voter turnout is calculated by dividing the number of voters voting by the number of registered voters.
