(UNDATED) - With the new year approaching, local law enforcement officials are encouraging folks to be responsible when celebrating.

Whether you are hosting a New Year's Eve party or attending celebrations, officials are asking that you take simple precautions - plan ahead and name a designated driver - don't drink and drive.

If you are impaired call a taxi, or get a sober friend or family member to drive you home or stay where you are until you are sober.

One final tip whether you are a host or a party attendee, take the keys from anyone you deem is too impaired to drive.
