Mitchell's Board Of Works And Safety Awards Bids For 2015 Supplies

(MITCHELL) - Mitchell’s Board of Works and Safety awards bids for 2015 supplies.

The Times-Mail reports that the contract for stone was awarded to Rogers Group, which operates Mitchell Crushed Stone on State Road 60 West. The company did not submit the lowest bid. Cave Quarries, west of Paoli, came in with lower numbers. However, board members, after figuring up how much the city would save for each load of gravel by using Cave, decided it was not enough to cover the gas and labor to drive to Paoli.

A bid for sand was awarded to Hancock Construction, which submitted a bid of $11.50 a ton delivered for fill sand. Fill sand is mixed with the city's salt supplies and spread on roads during winter weather.

Two bids were submitted to supply all the city's gasoline supplies for 2015.

Jones Oil Co., which operates the Marathon/Gasoline Alley station on State Road 37, and Terry's Food Mart, which operates the station on Main Street, both were the same at 7 cents off the pump price for regular unleaded, diesel and off-road diesel. The current fuel contract is with Terry's, which submitted the low bid for this year. Because of that, Clerk-treasurer George James suggested the city retain it's contract with Terry's and the board agreed.

Brenntag was the only company to submit bids for the city's chemical supplies, like sulfur, soda ash and liquid chlorine, it received all of the contracts for those products.

Although the city rarely uses hot or cold mix asphalt, they now own a Total Patcher machine to repair city streets, the board opted to award a contract for asphalt to Milestone Contractors of Bloomington.
