(SELLERSBURG) - Early Monday around 4:15 a.m., Trooper Patrick Stinson from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg was on regular patrol when he saw a white SUV exit the construction staging area near 9th Street and Interstate 65 in Jeffersonville without any headlights on.

Trooper Stinson stopped the SUV and spoke to the driver 35-year-old Jeanmel V. Hawkins from Jeffersonville.

During the conversation with Hawkins, Trooper Stinson discovered the vehicle was loaded with green steel rebar used in the construction of highways and bridges.

Hawkins was arrested on charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
