Inmate Stabbed And Killed At Wabash Valley Correctional Facility

(CARLISLE) - A murder investigation is underway following a stabbing Friday at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.

25-year-old Kango Douglas, an inmate at the facility, was stabbed multiple times in the face, neck and head shortly before noon on Friday.

The incident took place in the south campus recreation yard near P Housing Unit.

Indiana State Police detectives and WVCF Internal Affairs investigators have a person of interest linked to the attack.
The offenders identity will not be released pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. The suspect has been placed in a restrictive status housing unit at the facility.

Douglas was rushed from the WVCF Infirmary by ambulance to Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was then LifeLined by helicopter to Wishard-Eskanazi Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was placed on life support. Douglas remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Marion County Coroner's Office will schedule an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Investigators are working to pinpoint the motive for the fatal stabbing.

Police say the murder weapon has not been recovered. P Housing Unit has been placed on lockdown as the search for the weapon and questioning of offenders in the unit by ISP and WVCF Internal Affairs staff continues.

Douglas was serving a 55 year sentence for Marion County rape, criminal deviate conduct and burglary convictions.

Indiana State Police will coordinate the ongoing criminal investigation.
