(BLOOMINGTON) - On or after Wednesday, State Road 37 traffic will be shifted to share new southbound pavement at the Interstate 69 interchange south of Bloomington.

State Road 37 will continue to be one lane in each direction in the work zone between Fullerton Pike and Dillman Road. Northbound State Road 37 traffic will be shifted across the median to share the new southbound pavement.

Left turns will continue to be prohibited at the Rockport Road and That Road intersections. Until I-69 upgrades begin, traffic may turn right into or right out of State Road 37 at these locations. West Bolin Lane also is scheduled to reopen across the I-69 work zone later this week to provide an alternate route for local traffic.

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Crider & Crider Inc. of Bloomington is building a "trumpet" interchange to connect the new Interstate 69 alignment with the existing State Road 37 corridor. The design will give priority to I-69 through traffic while providing high-speed ramps for merging and diverging through traffic on State Road 37.

About Interstate 69

The new I-69 between Evansville and Indianapolis is a key component to the future economic vitality of southwestern Indiana, and will connect an entire region with improved access to jobs, education and healthcare.

The 142-mile I-69 corridor is divided into six sections. The first three sections opened for business in November 2012, saving motorists more than 30 minutes of travel time between Evansville and Crane. I-69 Section 4 between Crane and Bloomington is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2015. I-69 Development Partners expects to rehabilitate and upgrade the existing State Road 37 between Bloomington and Martinsville into I-69 Section 5 by the end of 2016.
