I-69 And U.S. 50 In Daviess County Prime Real Estate For Future Economic Growth

Last updated on Tuesday, December 2, 2014

(WASHINGTON) - The Interstate 69 and Highway 50 corridor in Daviess County is prime real estate for future economic growth, city officials say.

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman explained that the city has increased efforts to add utilities in that area, which include water, sewage, and electrical services.

"Everybody asks: Well has anybody signed on the line to put a truck stop or a gas station or a particular restaurant there," Wellman said, "Obviously the land is owned by private owners, so if [landowners] work a deal with an individual company they don't necessarily have to tell the city unless when they get ready to start building."

Wellman noted that local businesses had invested $11 million into TIF bonds that would help industrialize the intersection.
