(BARTLETTSVILLE) - A fire destroyed the home of Annette Starr early this morning. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 4:39 a.m. at the single-story home in the 5100 block of Bartlettsville Road.

Firefighters from Pleasant Run, Shawswick and Marshall Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene.

"The home was engulfed in flames when we arrived on the scene," says Pleasant Run Captain of Station 1 Cody East. "Half of the home was gone. All we could do was contain the blaze and keep it from spreading."

As of this morning, firefighters are still on the scene battling hot spots.

Starr was not home when the fire started.

"I had left around 12:30 a.m. and everything was fine," Starr says. "I know it is just a house and things, but I have lost everything that is important to me. All of my pictures, items that belonged to my mother, antiques and my children's toys that they had when they were little. Things that just can't be replaced."

Starr was at a friend's house helping remodel when she received the call her home was engulfed in flames.

"A neighbor was getting ready for work and saw the blaze and then called my dad," Starr added. "My stepmother answered the phone and then got a hold of me. I was in disbelief."

The one story home with an attached garage that was built in the late 1940s to early 50s has always been in the family.

"The home used to belong to my great uncle," Starr added. "You never think something like this is going to happen to you. I just don't know what to think. Everything is gone."

All that remains standing of the home is a chimney.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Also responding to the fire was the Pleasant Run Ladies Auxiliary and TOPES, who provided warm beverages and snacks to the firefighters.
