(DUGGER) - A Dugger man was arrested after he beat another man's head on the floor and headbutted a town marshal.

On Dec. 5, Dugger Town Marshall David Heaton was called to a Sullivan County home after a report that 29-year-old Brock Ward allegedly had beat another man's head on the floor of the home.

The man suffered cuts to his forearm and claimed Ward had caused the injuries.

The man who was injured told police that Ward was in the kitchen of the home, but when police went to check, Ward had left through a back door.

Officers stepped outside and found Ward, who was ordered to stop and put his hands on the back of the police car.

Ward refused, so Marshal Heaton grabbed Ward's arm. That is when Ward turned and headbutted the officer. The officer was able to push Ward inside the police car, handcuff him and check Ward for weapons and then took Ward back inside the home.

At that time, Dugger rescue workers had arrived and were treating the victim.

The victim refused to sign a battery affidavit against Ward stating he was afraid of Ward and feared retaliation.

Sullivan County Sheriff's deputies arrived and transported Ward, who continued to be belligerent on the way to the jail and during the booking in process.

Ward is charged with battery against a public safety officer, a level 6 felony, and resisting law enforcement and battery resulting in bodily injury, both class A misdemeanors.
