(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington city council has delayed a vote on new regulations for food trucks until Dec. 10.
But city officials did pass six amendments to the ordinance that would change how food trucks and carts can operate.
Some of the amendments loosened restrictions such as how many permits could be issued and where vendors could operate.
One amendment banned operations from 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Another amendment would require food vendors to operate a minimum 50 feet away from the façade or outdoor eating area of a brick-and-mortar restaurant.
Still another amendment was withdrawn that regulated how loud a generator used by a food vendor could be, not allowing it over 70 decibels. That amendment was taken off the table after members of the public complained it was an arbitrary number and would be heavily restrictive.
A major issue the council and community expressed was how to enforce the new rules. Some suggested police would help. Others thought parking enforcement officers could also report violations.
