Last updated on Wednesday, December 3, 2014

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Sunday afternoon after he allegedly battered his girlfriend and her 14-year-old disabled son.

27-year-old Eric King was arrested on charges of battery causing bodily injury against a person with a disability and battery with bodily injury on a minor and domestic battery.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called just after 3 p.m. to the Thornton shelter house after a woman reported her boyfriend had injured her and her son, who is both physically and mentally impaired.

When police arrived, the woman told officers the incident happened at the couple's apartment in the 1800 block of O Street and that the woman and child left after the incident.

"The woman reported [that] Mr. King allegedly injured the child and hit her in the arm and face and she thought her arm was broken," Parsley says. "The woman was transported to the hospital and the child, who did not need treatment, was released to a family member."

Officers then went to the O Street apartment after the woman signed a battery affidavit and arrested King.

King remains in jail with a bond set at $20,000 surety or $2,005 cash.
