State Road 56 Will Close Next Week For Water Line Repairs

Last updated on Thursday, November 20, 2014

(SALEM) - State Road 56 will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week while contracted crews relocate water lines that cross beneath the highway.

According to Harry Maginity, spokesperson for the Seymour District of the INDOT, excavation will occur at two locations on State Road 56 near Jim Day Road and State Road 56 near Parkview Drive.

Closures should occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.

Temple & Temple, the City of Salem's contractor, plans to relocate utilities at 13 locations over the next several weeks. Each will require closures along the state's east-west highway.

These utility relocations are being done by the city in advance of an Indiana Department of Transportation S.R. 56 construction project from High Street to a terminus east of Heritage Chapel Road. This project is part of the general expansion of retail in the area related to the construction of a Walmart Super Center.

The letting date for the road project is December 10. INDOT anticipates that road construction will begin in the spring of 2015.

The Salem portion of this Seymour District pavement project is a complete reconstruction of the highway - including new sidewalks, curb ramps, retaining walls and storm sewer system.

The rural Washington County scope of this construction calls for repairing and resurfacing State Road 56 - including shoulder widening, building passing blisters and replacement of a small drainage structure.
