Detectives Issue Warning As Search Continues For Murder Suspect

Last updated on Monday, November 10, 2014

(GREENE CO.) - Greene County Police Detective Sgt. George Dallaire of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department suspects someone is helping accused murderer Jorrell Houldson evade law enforcement.

Jorrell Houldson is accused of stabbing his mother Ruby Moon Houldson to death in her Linton home on October 1.

Police are asking the public to share Houldson's photo and spread the word that Houldson is a wanted man.

"His options are limited, and he has limited means. Someone has to be assisting him," said Dallaire who also warned that helping or hiding a criminal is not a wise thing to do. Once we find him, if we can develop probable cause that someone was assisting Houldson, they will be charged," said Dallaire, explaining that assisting a criminal is a serious crime and that anyone helping Houldson should think twice about their involvement.

Dallaire said every officer in the county is aware and keeping an eye out, but numerous other law enforcement agencies outside the county are also involved and are working on this case in various ways. The detective declined to share details.

Dallaire did share that the Houldson case is his top priority and the investigation has not slowed down but he and other officers are spending considerable time and resources in the search for the suspect.

This case began on the morning of Wednesday, October 1, when Ruby Moon Houldson, 47, was found dead in her residence south of Linton. According to an autopsy reported, Ruby died from exsanguinating hemorrhage due to multiple force injuries to the neck, chest, abdomen and extremities. She was stabbed more than 20 times.

Probable cause was developed and a warrant issued for Jorrell Houldson's arrest on October 31 after lab tests revealed blood that contained Ruby Houldson's DNA profile was located on Jorrell Houldson's shoes.

"We are following up on every tip and lead we receive," said Dallaire acknowledging the tips have not yet led to the apprehension of Houldson, but he added, "One day they will."

Dallaire is making another appeal to the public to continue to contribute tips, and also to share Houldson's photo and description online and on Facebook, not just in Greene County but in other locations.

"I encourage people to share this information with people across the state of Indiana," said Dallaire.

A representative of CrimeStoppers, Chief Troy Jerrell of the Linton Police Department, confirmed late Friday that Greene County CrimeStoppers is offering a significant reward for information leading to Houldson's apprehension.

Though Jerrell did not name a specific amount, he did say, "In this case, it would be one of the most significant rewards Greene County CrimeStoppers has ever paid."

Jorrell Houldson is 22 years old and has brown hair and green eyes. He is 5' 7" and a weight of approximately 175 pounds is accurate, but the suspect may have taken steps to alter his appearance.

Anyone with information about Houldson's whereabouts, or about anyone assisting him, is asked to contact the Greene County Sheriff's Department at 812-384-4411 or contact Greene County CrimeStoppers to make an anonymous tip by calling (812) TIP LINE or (812) 847-5643.
