Police Seeking Public's Help In Death Investigation

Last updated on Monday, November 24, 2014

(BLOOMFIELD) - Aaron Byers, a 40-year-old Bloomfield High School graduate who lived in Daviess County, was found dead one-mile west of Elnora at shortly after 5 a.m. on Sept. 13.

His family is asking anyone with information to contact the Indiana State Police.

Byers was found dead one-mile west of Elnora at shortly after a trooper responded to a traffic accident on County Road 300 East, about one quarter mile south of State Road 58. Two pedestrians told the trooper that they saw an injured man walking south along County Road 300 East.

The trooper continued south and could not locate the man, but turned around to check the area again and found Byers lying by the corn field on the west side of the road. According to ISP, his vehicle had been driven through the cornfield and crashed into a tree line about a quarter mile southwest of his body. Detectives determined that his death was a homicide, and not a result of the crash.

ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Philip Hensley says the case remains under investigation with officers assigned to it on a full-time basis running down leads and following up on tips they receive. But officers are at a stand still.

If you have any information about Byers' death, please contact the Indiana State Police Post in Jasper by calling (812) 482-1441. Toll free calls from Indiana may be made to (800) 742-7475.
