(GREENE CO.) - Two warrants are out for the arrest of a homeless man who had been living in Lyons and is accused of child molesting.

39-year-old Steven L. Miller is a convicted child molester who has served two different stints in prison and is required to register for the rest of his life on Indiana's Sex and Violent Offender's List.

According to the Greene County Daily World, in the latest case filed against Miller, he's accused of failure to register as a sex offender, a Level 6 felony. That case was filed Thursday in Greene Superior Court and the judge ordered a warrant be issued for his arrest.

That's the second warrant issued for Miller just this week.

Another warrant was issued on Monday, also out of Greene Superior Court, in a case connected to an incident that occurred in Lyons on October 13.

In this case, Miller is accused of resisting law enforcement as a Level 6 felony, resisting law enforcement as a Class A misdemeanor, and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

Both of the Greene County cases were investigated by Lyons Town Marshal Ronald Sparks.

On Oct. 13, Marshal Sparks was called to a location in Lyons where a vehicle repossession was taking place -- at 320 S. Jefferson Street. Miller, who was living or staying at the home, had gotten into a verbal confrontation with the repossession representative and Miller got into the vehicle, a silver 1999 Ford Mustang that was being repossessed, and drove away.

Sparks was looking for the Mustang when it drove by him. He activated lights and siren and turned around, but the Mustang turned onto another street, allegedly accelerated, and kept going at a high rate of speed, driving back to the Jefferson Street residence where Sparks said it came to a sliding stop in the front yard.

Sparks says Miller exited the vehicle and ran off. Sparks said he did not give chase because he was the only officer on the scene.

Other officers then arrived and when Sparks ran a check on the license plate that was on the Mustang, it returned to a tan 2005 Ford four-door vehicle belonging to a Linton woman whose vehicle had been reported as stolen on Oct. 12.

Sparks has since made attempts to locate and contact Miller, unsuccessfully. However, a woman who lived at the residence told police though Miller had not returned and she had no idea where he was, Miller had contacted her by text message saying he wasn't coming back.

Further investigation revealed Miller's requirement to register as a sex offender.

He did register with Greene County's Registrar Denise Andrew on Sept. 19, giving her the Lyons address. Because Miller did not return to that address, Sparks contacted the registrar who reported Miller contacted her on Oct. 15 and told her he was no longer living at the residence in Lyons and that he would be homeless but would be staying in Greene County. Andrew said she advised him he had 72 hours to report to her in person to change his address to "homeless" and that that living status, he would have to report in every seven days.

Sparks reported Miller failed to show up within the 72 hours and within the seven days.

A records check shows Miller's first stint in DOC was in 1997 when he was convicted in Brown County of resisting law enforcement and sentenced to 1.5 years.

In Morgan County, Miller was initially charged with a class A felony but he was convicted of Class C felony child molesting in 2009, sentenced to six years in DOC and released on April 21, 2014.

He's also facing current legal troubles in Morgan County. In a case filed September 11, a warrant was issued on two preliminary counts of failure to register as a sex offender, both Level 6 felonies. Records show Miller was arrested, then released on bond, and that he failed to appear in court for his initial hearing in a Morgan County court.

Miller is 39 years old, height 5'8", weight 180 lbs, with tattoos on both upper arms.

On the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender's List, Miller is listed as an offender against children.

Anyone with information about Miller's whereabouts is asked to contact the Lyons Town Marshal or the Greene County Sheriff's Department at 812-384-4411.
