Orleans Christmas Ornament Features 1926 Peter Pirsch Fire Engine

Last updated on Tuesday, November 4, 2014

(ORLEANS) - The 2014 Orleans Christmas ornaments will be available soon.

This year's ornament features the town's 1926 Peter Pirsch fire engine, which is being restored for the 200th anniversary celebration. Cale Kern of Bedford is restoring the fire engine that is believed to be the first engine purchased by the town.

The town paid $6,500 for the engine and purchased it from Peter Pirsch & Sons of Wisconsin.

The truck which is still fully operational and still contains many of its original fittings was in service until the early to mid-1970s.

The commemorative ornaments, which will be available before Thanksgiving, can be purchased at a number of Orleans businesses.

Proceeds from the Orleans chamber's annual ornament sale go toward the organization's many ongoing community improvement projects.
