(GREENE CO.) - Greene County law enforcement officers may not be quite as well-groomed as usual during the month of November - but it's all for a good cause.

"No Shave November" is a way for individuals or groups to donate money for and raise awareness of cancer while putting their razors away for 30 days.

Last year, members of Linton, Jasonville, Worthington, Bloomfield, and Lyons Police Departments as well as the Greene County Sheriff's Department and the Greene County Prosecutor's Office participated in the fundraiser.

The Greene County Daily World reports,"No Shave November" calls for everyone involved to make a donation for each day they do not shave. Those participating will donated a dollar a day for the 'privilege' of not shaving.

You don't have to be a male to participate, females can opt not to shave their legs for 30 days.

A "shaving permit", which costs $45, may be purchased by those who want to be involved but also retain the right to clip, cut, or shave what they choose.

He added that most, if not all, law enforcement departments have strict grooming policies that are being relaxed during the month of November for a very good cause.

The FOP will donate all the benefits from the fundraiser to the American Cancer Society. Last year, the organization donated $750, but hope to raises more this year.

The FOP is not asking for donations from the community. However, if other people or organizations would like to participate in "No Shave November", they may contact the FOP on Facebook or send an email to to receive a pledge letter.
