Man Arrested After Stealing Tools

Last updated on Monday, November 10, 2014

(LINTON) - 36-year-old Shane Barnes of Linton was arrested last week on a theft charge after he allegedly stole hand tools from a Linton home in September.

The resident had security cameras and the video showed Barnes making several trips into the garage and exiting with the stolen tools and placing them in his Mercury Tracer.

According to the probable cause affidavit, police were called about an abandoned vehicle on Sept. 27, and discovered that it fit the description of the car in the video. The vehicle was discovered to belong to Barnes after his plates were runby police. The vehicle, which had a lot of damage, was towed away from the scene.

On Oct. 13, police went to Barnes' home and Barnes allegedly admitted he had taken some ratchet sets out of the garage that valued about $350.

Barnes reportedly denied taking any other tools and said he took the ratchet sets to sell to support his drug habit. He told police he would like to go to drug rehab and had settled the matter about the tools with the victim.
