(BEDFORD) - 20-year-old Nickolas Cox of Oolitic was arrested Sunday morning after officers found him walking on Vinegar Hill Road.

Officers say Cox had been drinking and was wanted after his father reported Cox had stolen one his mother's vehicle.

According to Chief Deputy Mike Branham, at 5:53 a.m. Sunday, police received a called about a vehicle crashed into a pole and tree on Palestine Road. When officers and emergency crews arrived they found no one around the vehicle.

Police then attempted to contact the owner and had to leave a message for him to call police. At 8:22 a.m. the owner of the vehicle came to the station and reported the 1995 Toyota had been stolen.

"According to the owner, Cox allegedly came to his parent's home around 4 a.m. and allegedly took his mother's car keys and took the vehicle without their knowledge," says Branham.

Later that morning around 11 a.m. officers found Cox walking along Vinegar Hill Road. Police determined Cox had been drinking and he was arrested on charges of illegal consumption, auto theft and leaving the scene of an accident.
