Man Arrested After Shooting Out Vehicle Window During Road Rage Incident

Last updated on Wednesday, November 26, 2014

(HURON) - A Mitchell man was arrested after a road rage incident ended with shots fired.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig, police received a call at 5:30 p.m. from a motorist who says he was traveling on U.S. 50 West near Huron when a driver of another vehicle fired a shot and busted out the back window of his Dodge near the U.S. 50/ 60 split.

"The two did not know each other," Craig says. "This was an incident of road rage."

The motorist who fired the shot continued traveling on U.S. 50 and continued firing at the Dodge.

Officers from Martin County and Indiana State police, along with officers from the sheriff's department began looking for the white Cavalier.

A Martin County officer found the vehicle parked at a home, but the driver was no where around. The engine of the vehicle was still hot and there were spent rifle shells in plain sight inside the vehicle.

Officers then went to Martin County to speak to the victim and worked to secure a search warrant for the Cavalier and the property where the vehicle was parked.

In the mean time police received a call reporting someone had found a rifle in a ditch near the home. Officers recovered that weapon.

After securing the search warrants officers contacted the homeowner, searched the vehicle and property and located 33-year-old Caleb Stiles.

Stiles was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm.
