IU Wants To Increase Number Of Students Studying Abroad

Last updated on Tuesday, November 18, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University’s president says he wants to see 40 percent of students to take part in study abroad programs from the Bloomington campus in the coming years.

President Michael McRobbie says he wants IU to raise enough money to create 400 new study abroad scholarships so that more low-income students can be included.

McRobbie says that increasing the number of students who get to spend time in other countries remains among his top priorities.

About one-third of Bloomington campus students study aboard during their college years, and McRobbie wants to reach the 40 percent level by the bicentennial of IU's founding in 2020.

McRobbie says he wants to also see an increase in study abroad programs at the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis.
