IU Students Raise $3.2 Million During Dance Marathon

Last updated on Wednesday, November 19, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - IU students danced their hearts out for over a day to raise millions for the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center at Riley Hospital for Children.

Every year, students gather for the IU Dance Marathon, where students dance for 36 straight. This year marks the 24th year of the event.

Since the inaugural marathon in 1991, the event has grown to over 250 participating universities and 100 high schools across the country raising money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Last year, IU students raised $2.6 million for Riley. This year, more than 3,000 students surpassed last year's amount and raised over $3.2 million.

"Surpassing $3.2 million for the benefit of kids at Riley Hospital for Children is an incredible accomplishment. Dedication and selfless attitudes have prevailed for 24 years promoting a can-do attitude amongst all IUDM participants. IUDM is one of the most respected student organizations across the country. Our hearts of gratitude extend to the students who work diligently year-round to achieve this success," said Jason Mueller, director of regional communications, Riley Children's Foundation.
