Hoosier Uplands Taking Applications For Section 8 Housing

Last updated on Friday, November 14, 2014

(LAWRENCE CO.) - Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority have opened the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) Section 8 Waiting List for Lawrence County.

IHCDA administers the HCVP in areas of Indiana not covered by a county or municipal housing authority. In Lawrence County the program is administered under a contract with Hoosier Uplands.

The HCVP provides rental assistance to individuals and families whose total income falls below the very low-income level, based on median income in the area.

Applicants for the program are placed on a waiting list for a voucher, which is issued for an eligible unit. There are a very limited number of vouchers available each year. Families should plan to be on the waiting list for some time. Assistance is awarded based on preference points.

A family may be on the waiting list for other public housing programs and still apply for the Housing Choice Voucher Program administered by the IHCDA. Applicants will be asked to designate a county, in which they name will be listed. If the applicant declines to designate a county, their name will automatically be placed on a list in the county from where they apply.

If you believe you are eligible and are in need of clean, safe and decent housing, you may apply in person at the Mitchell Hoosier Uplands office. You may contact the Mitchell office at (812) 849-4447 or (800) 827-2219. The office is located at 500 West Main Street in Mitchell.

You must bring evidence of legal address, such as a copy of driver's license or state ID, along with a current utility bill, social security cards, birth certificates for all household members. If you are employed full time bring in a most recent paystub. If you are disabled bring proof of disability.
