(DUBOIS CO.) - The opening event of the Dubois County Museum’s Festival of Trees will be held this year on November 6 at the museum.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., the program will be from 6 p.m. till 7:30 p.m.
Martha Rasche, who has spent 25 years as reporter and editor, and who now does freelance work, is in charge of entertainment and inspiration.
The program is entitled, "Memories are made of this." Tidbits of holiday and winter activities will be presented by Anna Kern and Lucille Blume. Mrs. Blume will also provide harmonica music. The purpose of the evening is to get to know the older generations. For that reason, the public is invited to come and bring younger family members. Girls Scouts and 4-Hers are encouraged to come. Teachers may consider encouraging their students to attend and offer extra credit to their students who come.
Christmas trees in the banquet room will be designed and decorated this year by local health care providers, such as St. Charles Health Campus, Good Samaritan/Northwood Retirement, Scenic Hills, Timbers of Jasper, Memorial Hospital Skilled Care, Qualicare Family Homecare, Brookside Village, SIRS Industries, Home Instead Senior Care, and the Older American Center.
Molly Scherle Rupert, a young entertainer and a teacher, who is known locally in drama and dance, will do a short ballet selection from the Nutcracker Ballet.
That night desserts, cookies, snacks, drinks will be served, and Orange Leaf will provide yogurt samples of their signature items. Cookies and desserts will be made from recipes featured in the Museum cookbook. Remaining cookbooks will be sold at a special price of $10. This entire program is free to the public.
Numerous prizes will be given away. Admission is free; donations are accepted.
Many Christmas trees, decorated by the museum's volunteer elves, will be displayed throughout the museum. Some of the museum's 1,100 Santas will be on displayed this evening, also. Be sure to stop by the museum several times during the season as you cannot absorb all of it at one time.
Musical entertainment will again be featured on Saturday and Sundays of the area's local talent.
The Festival of Trees at the Dubois County Museum is becoming famous throughout the region and draws many visitors to see the trees, the Santas, and the weekly entertainment planned on the weekends.
The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 pm, Saturday from 10 a.m. till 4 pm and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 pm. It is closed on Monday.
The Dubois County Museum is a local nonprofit organization committed to the collection, preservation and interpretation of historical artifacts and information important to the citizens of the county. Museum operations are funded by annual memberships, donations and gifts from visitors, area residents and businesses
