(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell teen was injured after he swerved to miss a deer Thursday night on Mill Creek Road.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 16-year-old James Courtright was traveling eastbound on Mill Creek Road when he came upon a deer standing in the roadway.

Courtright swerved his 2005 Pontiac Grand Am to miss hitting the deer and over-corrected, causing the vehicle to cross the roadway and travel up an embankment and roll.

Courtright suffered numerous small cuts and scratches to his hands and arm from broken glass. His father came to the scene and Courtright refused medical attention.

Assisting at the scene was the Marion Volunteer Fire Department and an IU Health Hospital ambulance.
