Community Kitchen Of Monroe Co. Expected To Serve 900 Thanksgiving Meals

Last updated on Friday, November 21, 2014

(MONROE CO.) - Volunteers at the Community Kitchen of Monroe County expect to feed about 900 people at their free Thanksgiving meal next week.

They will also hand out about 200 bags of groceries.

Vicki Pierce, the executive director at the Community Kitchen of Monroe County, says the number of meals they serve on Thanksgiving is more than on average days, in part because of an extra delivery service they run for senior citizens. They will delivery around 175 meals.

There has been a steady increase in the number of free meals the Community Kitchen provides each year during the past 10 years. The number of volunteers working at the Community Kitchen has also risen - about 40 volunteers will work this Thanksgiving.

The Community Kitchen is accepting food donations, such as cans of green beans, fruit cocktail, stuffing mixes for the holiday meal.
