(BEDFORD) -The Bedford Board of Works agreed to pay the appraised price for two parcels of land that were in condemnation proceedings. The property is needed for the Plaza Drive South Project.

According to Mayor Shawna Girgis, the city and owners of two parcels had agreed to the sale, but they could not settle on prices. In June, the board agreed to start condemnation proceedings in court to set the prices.

One of the parcels is a slice of land at the WashWorld car wash, owned by Jay Strauss.

The other is farther south and is owned by Robert Ryan II and Anthony Galloway.

City attorney Greg Pittman said three appraisers had been appointed through the proceedings in Lawrence Circuit Court. The prices are $17,670 for the WashWorld parcel and $16,270 for the Ryan-Galloway land.

Board members voted to pay those amounts.

The money will come from the city's general fund and will be paid to the clerk's office. The city will then asked the judge to order the land transferred to the city and the money will go to the property owners.

If the property owners do not accept the appraised amount they can take the matter to trial and a judge will make a decision.
