(BROWNSTOWN) - The Brownstown Town Council has rejected a proposal to eliminate a system in which each has to live in the ward they represent.

Councilman Ben Lewis recently brought up the idea suggesting the requirement is discouraging more people from running for office.

Although the town is divided into five wards with one council member representing each, voters cast ballots for candidates in all five wards every four years. The next municipal election will be in 2015.
