Bloomington/Monroe County To Hold Public Workshops For New Transportation Plan

Last updated on Tuesday, November 4, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington/Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMCMPO) will hold two public workshops with the goal of gaining input as it develops the 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).

The MTP is the regional transportation plan for Bloomington, Ellettsville and Monroe County, and it provides guidance for the programming of transportation projects of all modes.

The first workshop will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 pm at the new downtown Bloomington Transit Center, located at the corner of N. Walnut and E. Third Streets. The second workshop will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 pm at the Ellettsville Branch of the Monroe County Public Library, located at 600 W. Temperance St., in Ellettsville. The two workshops will cover the same content, in order to provide the public with another option to attend if one does not fit into their schedule.

Development of the new MTP requires an extensive public involvement process which includes public workshops, a steering committee, data analysis and a transportation survey. Workshop attendees will be asked to provide feedback on the proposed vision and goals for the new plan, and to help shape the project funding priorities of the MPO for the next 25 years. BMCMPO staff looks forward to discussing these and other important transportation issues with residents at the workshops.

For more information on the MTP, please contact BMCMPO Director Josh Desmond at 349.3423 or desmondj@bloomington.in.gov
