Bloomfield Police Department Accepting Applications, Donations For 'Bless This Dinner'

Last updated on Wednesday, November 19, 2014

(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Police Department’s annual ‘Bless This Dinner’ holiday program is now underway

The program provides eligible Bloomfield town residents with a holiday dinner for families or a shopping trip to Walmart for kids. The shopping trip will be held on Dec. 17 and the department will be spending $100 on each child. Winter clothing will be the top priority Bloomfield Town Marshal Kenny Tharp says numerous children are attending school wearing shorts, have no hats, gloves or coats.

Applications for the shopping trip are available at Bloomfield Town Hall and online at http://bloomfieldpd.com/, and will soon be available at the Family Life Center.

Those applying must live within Bloomfield's town limits and have their forms filled out and turned in by December 12.

Officers choose families to receive baskets with ingredients for a holiday meal, and deliver them after the annual shopping trip. Bloomfield IGA will prepare the food baskets.

Last year, the Bloomfield Police Department helped 33 families with either food baskets or a shopping trip. But none of this can be done without donations for businesses, organization or citizens

If you would like to make a donation towards the program, you may drop it off at town hall between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or give a check to any BPD officer.

Unopened toys may also be dropped off at town hall.

If you have any questions about the 'Bless This Dinner' program, you may call the town hall at 384-4114 and ask to speak with a police officer or find out more online at http://bloomfieldpd.com/.
