(BEDFORD) - Despite competing two players short, the Bertha's Mission team advanced through two games on Thursday night, making its way to the championship game of the Teen Brain Games No. 11.

The games, played at the Star Station TV studio at Bedford North Lawrence High School, are sponsored annually by the Lawrence County Museum of History.

Bertha's Mission, sponsored by Dave Torphy Insurance, faced the Orleans Red Team sponsored by Day & Carter Mortuary in the championship.

The Times Mail reports that to make it to the final game, Bertha's Mission defeated Hoosier Hills Credit Union's Shawswick Middle School team, 100-20, and later beat Affordable Auto, 140-70. The Orleans Red Team defeated the Orleans Chamber of Commerce's Orleans Black Team, 140-110, in its first game and then topped Brent Maudlin State Farm, 110-100 to advance to the final game.

Bertha's Mission players Alec Kern, Payton Kittaka and Will Upham, competed against a full team of Emma Thompson, Morgan Silvers, Mariah Hammond, Nikki Moon and Nick Stalker on the Orleans Red Team.

The game was close throughout, with the largest lead being 90-60 in favor of the Bertha's Mission team. Orleans Red led 40-30 when Kern knew it was the Atlantic Ocean that is crossed when going from London to Boston and the team added the 10-point bonus.

Stalker pulled OHS Red to within 10 points with his answer of "opaque" for the term for a material that completely blocks light from passing through it; and the team also added the bonus to then tie the score.

Bertha's Mission scored 30 straight points and took control of the game and Orleans Red was never able to overcome that deficit.

This was the first year of competing for the Orleans Red team.

The winning team received gold medals and a cash prize, while the runner-up team earned silver medals as well as a cash prize.
