(BEDFORD) - Bedford police officers were called to WalMart Wednesday after a couple walked out of the store with more than $250 in stolen items.

Officer were called to the store at 4:56 p.m. after a lost prevention officer witnessed 34-year-old Jamie Durbin and 58-year-old Bradley Bartlett steal several items and walk out the doors.

"When officers arrived they were pushing a cart filled with grocery and household items out of the store," Bedford Assistant Chief Joe DeWeese says. "They were asked to stop and that is when Mr. Bartlett took off running west in the parking lot."

Officer say Durbin stopped and was standing at the police car when Bartlett took. He ran through the lot and was attempting to hide from police behind parked cars, DeWeese added.

Officers were able to detain Bartlett and as they were putting him in handcuffs, Durbin took off running to the east.

"At that time other officers were arriving and were able to detain Ms. Durbin," DeWeese added.

Both Bartlett and Durbin, both of 2929 South I Street, were charged with theft and resisting arrest by fleeing. Bartlett was also charge with public intoxication.

Later that night officers were called back to the store, after 50-year-old Charles Fry, of Paoli was caught by store security stealing items.

Officers were called to the store at 6:29 p.m. after Fry allegedly stole more than $550 in grocery and household items.

Fry cooperated with police and he was arrested on a charge of theft.
