2014 Orleans Chamber's Holiday Ornament Features Old Fire Engine

Last updated on Friday, November 14, 2014

(ORLEANS) - The Orleans Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 2014 Christmas Ornaments have arrived and are now available for purchase.

According to Chamber Exec. Director Robert F. Henderson this year's holiday keepsake, the 15th in a series commemorating various Orleans landmarks through the years, features the old town fire engine.

The 1926 Peter Pirsch Fire Truck was purchased brand new by the Town of Orleans in the amount of $6,500 from Peter Pirsch & Sons of Wisconsin. The truck is still fully operational and still contains many of its original fittings. It was in continual service up into the early to mid 1970s. The serial number on the truck is 569.

The Orleans Fire Dept and town officials have recently undertaken a fundraising effort to restore the truck back to its original appearance as part of the town's official 200th Birthday celebration set in 2015.

Only a limited number of the collectibles are available and are expected to sell out completely within a very short time.

Each ornament sells for $10 and is now available at a number of Orleans businesses including both banks, and Orleans Town offices while they last.

Henderson added that only a very limited number of 2012 and 2013 editions remain with the 1915 town water tower and Orleans Theatre. These still may be obtained for $5 each.

Proceeds from the Chamber's annual Ornament Sale go toward the group's community improvement projects being planned in conjunction with the upcoming Orleans Bicentennial celebration in 2015.
