Virgil I. Grissom Boyhood Home Work Day This Saturday, Last Tour Of Season

(MITCHELL) - The Virgil I. Grissom Boyhood Home will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday for tours - for the last time this season.

The home will be open four special days over the winter: In December as part of the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services Holiday Tour of Homes; on Jan. 27 for the 48th anniversary of Grissom's death; March 23 for the 50th anniversary of the Molly Brown flight; and April 3, in commemoration of the astronaut's 89th birthday.

The home will reopen for regular tours Memorial Day weekend. Plans are to have the home open every Saturday from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Virgil I. Grissom Inc., will have a work day at the Boyhood Home from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There are jobs inside and out and for all skill levels, and will include washing windows, painting, planting bulbs and flowers and general cleaning. More skilled tasks are repair and stabilization on the garage

General supplies will be provided but volunteers are asked to bring hand tools.
