Two Orleans Teachers Honored For Going Above And Beyond

Last updated on Tuesday, October 21, 2014

(ORLEANS) - Two Orleans teachers have been honored for going “above and beyond” in coaching high school academic teams to 28 trips to the state finals - grabbing seven state championship titles along the way.

Orleans teachers Kristina Hole and Leah Morgan were selected and honored by the Indiana Association of School Principals to receive the 2014 Dick Ramey "Above and Beyond Award" for their efforts as Orleans High School academic coaches.

The pair began their coaching careers in 1994 with teams in the Elementary Spell Bowl and Math Bowl.

They later moved their coaching duties to the junior high and high school level.

The Bulldogs have won the PLAC Academic Bowl nine of the past 11 years.

In addition to academic coaching, Hole is the French teacher at OHS and serves as the elementary high ability teacher. Morgan, who holds a doctorate degree, teaches art in grades 1-12. She serves as the high ability coordinator for the Orleans School Corp.

The high school Spell Bowl team is currently preparing for the area competition on Nov. 3 at Austin High School. Teams will soon begin forming for the 2015 Academic Super Bowl theme - "The Grandeur that was Rome."
