(BLOOMINGTON) - A parking garage may be used for more than holding vehicles, as the Monroe County commissioners continue to move forward with the project, with or without money from the 2015 general obligation bond.

The Herald Times reports that on Friday, the Monroe County Board of Commissioners authorized President Patrick Stoffers to execute financial documents to move forward on building a new facility.

It would serve the dual purpose of providing parking for county employees and an emergency housing center for the jail in case of evacuation.

The move came in spite of the project being called a low priority for the commissioners during a public hearing on the 2015 general obligation bond.
