Mitchell VFD Post 9107 Donates $2,500 To Recreation And Youth Center

Last updated on Tuesday, October 21, 2014

(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell VFW Post 9107 donated $2,500 to the Southern Indiana Sports Recreation and Youth Center.

The VFW along with Hall Services LLC has been on board since the beginning talks of developing the SISRYC and helped the organization obtain their 501(3)c status.

The VFW continues to support SISRYC as part of its commitment to "supporting our local youth and citizens."

"We are thrilled to have the VFW helping us make this a reality," wrote Chris Blackmore, president of the SISRYC board. "It's going to take a lot of support to get it open and to keep it open once we get there. It's not a matter of 'if' we open now, it's 'when' we open. Once we obtain the funds to get established, we will get started. We have almost everything in place to be able to begin."

The board has started an affordable fundraising campaign called TEAM SISRYC.

"We are asking people to commit to $1 a week for the next year to help us do that." Blackmore wrote. "Our goal is to get at least 5,000 people on our team. It's a simple formula where everyone giving a little adds up to whole lot!"

SISRYC will benefit everyone, from kids to senior citizens to business owners in surrounding communities.

The board is looking for sponsors and donations to help support SISRYC.

"We plan to place a sign at the property and a billboard and are looking for a business who would like to sponsor that and receive advertising on that sign as well," Blackmore added.

Information on how to donate can be found on the website at SISRYC.org.
