Loogootee School Board Looking To Hire School Counselor

Last updated on Friday, October 24, 2014

(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee School Board is looking at hiring an experienced social worker to serve as a school counselor for the elementary and junior high grades.

Loogootee currently only has a counselor for the high school students.

Superintendent Dr. Joan Keller told school board members she had spoke with officials from Youth First, a non-profit agency based in Evansville.

The Washington Times-Herald reports that several board members were in favor of retaining the services of Youth First, since the agency has experience working with schools.

The cost to the corporation would be about $30,000 and Youth First, would seek to supplement that money with private donations.

No commitment was made by the board.

In other business, the board approved a paid leave through December for high school Principal John Mullen, due to health concerns for several family members. It is not known if he will return next year.

The board also approved changes in the boys basketball program. Larry Hembree resigned as 8th grade coach, while Dave Smith transferred from junior varsity coach to 8th grade. Brian Smith will be the new junior varsity coach.
