LeBlanc Named New Forest Soil Scientist For Hoosier National Forest

Last updated on Friday, October 17, 2014

(BEDFORD) - Jonathan LeBlanc, the new Forest Soil Scientist for the Hoosier National Forest, comes to Indiana with experience and is ready to make a difference.

LeBlanc arrived on the Hoosier September 22 and has since been out in the field looking at projects.

"The region has a very complex geologic record which lends itself to some really cool soils," said LeBlanc.

LeBlanc grew up in southwest Louisiana, and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and his Master of Science Degree in Soil Science from the University of Idaho. His first job after graduate school was with the Washington State Natural Resource Conservation Service, working out of Okanogan, WA.

He came to Indiana because he wanted to be a soil scientist with the U.S. Forest Service. His office is in Bedford, with duties forest-wide. LeBlanc commented, "The Hoosier National Forest staff do a lot of great restoration projects, and I'm looking forward to being a part of the work they do."

When not working, LeBlanc enjoys saltwater fishing, backpacking, and studying plants. He and his wife currently live in Bloomington. Questions for Jonathan LeBlanc regarding the soils program should be directed to the Hoosier's Bedford Office at (812) 275-5987 or to jonathandleblanc@fs.fed.us.
