IU To Open Gateway Offices In Germany, Turkey, Africa And Southeast Asia

Last updated on Wednesday, October 15, 2014

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University opened an office in China and now there are plans to open six or seven more.

IU Vice President for International Affairs David Zaret says the IU gateway offices are a five year experiment to see if offices are able to help recruit international students, increase international research, grant collaborations, increase engagement and donations from international alumni and to grow IU activities in other countries.

Currently, IU has an office in Beijing, China, and a second office near New Delhi in Gurgaon, India, which IU President Michael McRobbie dedicated this month.

The next possible locations for IU offices are Berlin, Germany, and Istanbul, Turkey. After establishing officers there officials will begin negotiations in Africa and Southeast Asia.

These are not IU international branch campuses, but facilities that can host events, have offices and conference rooms.

Ohio State University and the University of Chicago are examples of other universities with international gateway offices.
