INDOT To Close State Road 58 Between Kurtz And Freetown Thursday

Last updated on Wednesday, October 8, 2014

(JACKSON CO.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close State Road 58 between Kurtz and Freetown Thursday morning.

The state is replacing a bridge and relocating a creek channel 3¾ miles west of State Road 135 in Jackson County.

INDOT's $845,497 Seymour District bridge project calls for a 60-day closure of State Road 58. Motorists are advised to detour around the construction site via State Road 446, U.S. 50 and State Road 135.

"There is no short cut to Kurtz," points out INDOT project engineer Doug Ewing. "You'll have to come in from the west using State Road 446 to State Road 58. Follow the detour signs."

HIS Constructors of Indianapolis is the state's contractor for relocating a branch of Bee Creek approximately 30 feet to the east of its present situation, raising the State Road 58 roadway nearly five feet and installing a new 3-sided box structure with 10-foot rise, 36-foot span and 80-foot width.

The INDOT project corrects a continuing erosion problem at the current structure location where a steel plate now covers the highway's bridge approach.
