INDOT: No Campaign Signs On State, Federal Right-Of-Ways

(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Transportation is reminding everyone that campaign signs may not be posted in federal and state highway right-of-ways.

INDOT is required by state law to remove all unauthorized signs from the state right-of-way.

Crews may also remove a sign if it poses an immediate safety risk, such as being too close to the road or obstructing sight lines.

Right-of-way areas where signs cannot be posted include:

All interstates and their interchanges
All intersections where at least one local, state or federal road intersects with a state or federal highway
All rights-of-way paralleling federal or state highways
Where right-of-way is not clearly marked, the back of the ditch, to the fence line or up to utility poles will act as markers
Any signs that are removed from a right-of-way will be taken to the nearest INDOT subdistrict office, where they will be kept until after the election.

Campaign signs may be claimed by the owner between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.
