Greene County Foundation Hands Out Grant Awards

(WORTHINGTON) - The Greene County Foundation continued its commitment to the county and to charitable organizations by handing out its 2014 Grant Awards.

The Greene County Daily World reports, the Foundation awarded funding to 10 different projects from 17 different requests totaling more than $25,000 for everything from a new projector for the Greene County Literacy Coalition to funds to start a garden to save Monarch butterflies.

Greene County Foundation Executive Director Cam Trampke told the crowd during her opening remarks that was just one part of the organization's goals, and one of the most enjoyable.

The foundation handed out the following grants:

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District, $4,000 matching grant for the Viaduct Observation Deck construction at the Tulip Trestle.
Greene County Stingrays Swim Team, $4,500 for new starting blocks for the A.M. Risher Pool and other upgrades.
Jasonville United Methodist Church Back Door Food Pantry, $1,000 for crock pots and cooking classes for clients.
Friends of Shakamak State Park, $1,000 in support of their annual fundraising 5K and 10K runs in the spring.
Worthington Park Board, $2,000 for replacement of a slide in the town's park.
Greene County Literacy Coalition, $500 for a projector for use during adult literacy classes.
PACE Headstart, $1,044 for a mentoring program and the Linton and Eastern Greene centers that will also purchase books for students.
Eastern Greene High School Future Farmers of America, $4,617 for a greenhouse kit that will be used by the students to raise vegetables to sell to benefit the program and provide educational opportunities.
Saving the Monarchs, $1,000 to construct a garden habitat at Linton-Stockton Middle School and at the Goose Pond Visitor's Center to grow Monarch butterflies and provide educational opportunities for students to learn more about the butterflies which are dwindling in number.

Over the course of its existence, the Greene County Foundation has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to 84 organizations and rewarded 330 students with scholarship money.
