(JACKSON CO.) - A two-vehicle crash on I-65 north of Seymour claimed the life of a motorcyclist Wednesday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a 58-year-old Prospect Heights, Illinois man was traveling south on I-65 when it struck the rear of a 2013 International semi-tractor pulling a 2012 Wabash box trailer operated by 52-year-old Richard Gavin of Gainesville, Florida.

Gavin and other motorists were stopped southbound in a traffic backup due to road construction when the accident happened at 10:30 a.m.

During the collision the Illinois man was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.

The crash caused the I-65 southbound lanes to be shut down for several hours as a crash investigation was conducted.
