Commissioners Vote To Purchase New Signs For County Complex

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Commissioners voted Tuesday to purchase new signs for the County Complex.

Three new red, white and blue signs will be placed at three locations:

The county will pay Mikels Signs $985 for all three signs, which include installation.

The money will be paid out of the county's sign fund.

In other business:

* Commissioners opened bids for the purchase of used vehicles from the Sheriff's Department. Two people bid on six vehicles. The vehicles were awarded to the highest bidders. Six of the vehicles went to Siray Shariff of Illinois and one went to David Holmes of Bedford. The total amount received for all six vehicles was $9,951.

* Highway Department crews are mowing and cutting brush. Crews are also hauling sand for winter. Cleanup efforts continue at Mount Pleasant bridge. Crews will begin pouring concrete at bridge 199 on Tunnelton Dennison Road. Officials have received a preliminary report for the Jasper McKeigg Road.

* Sheriff Sam Craig reported there were 94 inmates at the jail, 4 were Department of Correction holds, 16 females.

* Commissioners granted Sheriff Craig permission to sign a contract with Comcast saving the county $107 a month if the switch from Indiana Office & Technology for the T1 lines for broadband service. The line is used for officers to run license plates and other information.

* Commissioners approved agreements for a new voting facility at Springville Elementary School. Those that voted at the Springville Feeder Auction will now vote at the school. Those voting will enter the school through the north doors.

They also updated a voting site agreement with the new owners of Camper Rivervale.

* Commissioners approved the second payment of $457,200 to Tri-County for the cost of the courthouse windows.
