(BEDFORD) - Two people were hurt after a woman lost control of her vehicle on the wet roadway and crossed the center line of Tunnelton Road Monday morning.

According to a Bedford Police report, 43-year-old Wendy Reef of Bedford was traveling south on Tunnelton Road when her 2001 Ford SPE began to to swerve and as Reef was trying to correct her vehicle it began to fishtail causing the vehicle to cross the center line and collide with a 2007 Pontiac driven by 24-year-old Melissa Pavey of Bedford.

After the collision, Reef's vehicle left the roadway and struck some support poles near the entrance of Brook Knoll.

Pavey told police she saw Reef's vehicle coming toward her but there was nothing she could do to avoid the collision.

Reef complained of knee, neck, chest and lower abdomen pain and was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.

Pavey complained of hand pain and was treated at the scene.

While at the scene firefighters from the Bedford Fire Department saw a substance on the roadway which they believed was either oil or antifreeze making the roadway slick. This substance was not a result of the accident and is believed to have been a major factor in Reef losing control of her vehicle.

The highway department was notified and dumped sand on the substance.
