(BEDFORD) - Bedford North Lawrence is testing Global Positioning Systems on some of their school buses.

Darren Waggoner, transportation director for the North Lawrence Community Schools, says the system traces the vehicle's route, records events, likes stops, when the doors are open and speed basically everything the driver does while driving the bus route. Drivers cannot turn the system off.

The Times-Mail reports, three demonstration units have been used on NL buses so far. The school board is considering purchasing GPS systems for buses, maintenance trucks and other school vehicles.

Synovia Solutions out of Indianapolis is currently providing the GPS system and it cost $30 a month for each vehicle, but Waggoner is confident the school system could reach a deal with the company if the board decides to place GPS systems on all the buses. He has another meeting with Synovia to discuss prices and other issues and then will report back to the school board with his findings.
