(SALEM) - The fourth annual Blue River watershed clean-up is being planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Clubs, organizations and individuals are invited to help.
Anyone interested should meet at CenterPeace, the site of the old cheese plant in Salem.
Past events have brought out more than 250 volunteers, according to Whitney Sauerheber, coordinator of the Mill Creek-Blue River Watershed Project.
Volunteers usually pick up about 1,200 pounds of debris over the two-hour timeframe, on city streets and along Blue River.
The Blue River watershed encompasses more than 99,854 acres in central and south central Washington County. There are approximately 117 miles of creeks in the watershed, which eventually empties into the Ohio River.
A watershed management plan has been developed by a steering committee, under the guidance of Sauerheber.
